This is just sad. :c
Make way for a real technological marvel.

I object to this picture on the basis that it tries to determine who is ‘worth mourning’. Also it assumes I mourned Jobs as an inventor. I think of him as one of the great entrepreneurs of my generation. For that if nothing else he was a truly amazing person. How many businesses did this guy run? Better yet, what Disney movies did he exec. Produce?

This man’s work has contributed to every part of computing we see today. I’d say that every Disney/Pixar film used something written in C. Every company that releases an application uses a language that has been influenced by C, on a system that has C in it. Windows is written in C and C++. Linux is written in C. OSX is written in C and Objective-C. Both Linux and OSX are Unix-like systems, and Windows has a Unix-like part to deal with the internet.

Doesn’t make him a quality entrepreneur, also, even IF you could prove to me he was better than Jobs, that doesn’t mean Jobs isn’t worthy of mourning. Still a human life, bro

I’m not saying that Jobs isn’t worthy of mourning, I’m saying that Dennis Ritchie is more important in the scheme of things than Jobs was. Ritchie’s work made a lot of Jobs’s designs possible, and have influenced every system afterwards. He was never an entrepreneur, he was an engineer, and one of the most important ones of the twentieth century.

We mourn the marketer but we ignore the death of the inventor. I wouldn’t have even heard about it if it wasn’t for tumblr. What does that say about our society
So yes, rest in peace Dennis. This man made the modern day internet possible and modern computing a reality. If you know your tech, you know that his list of achievements makes Steve Jobs look like an amateur and reveals that he was a marketer, plain and simple.
Sorry Dennis, I wish we could give you a more proper memory that wasn’t linked to that greedy amateur Jobs.

This shit right fucking here.

internet is full of assholes, and this is a perfect example. 2 people are dead and all you can think to do is argue about who was better? Shut the fuck up. please.
